Monday, September 18, 2023

6:00-7:00 PM

Speakers:

Robi Thomas, PhD, RN, PMHNP-BC, Associate Prof. of Nursing

Andrea Kwasky, DNP, RN, PMHNP-BC, Professor of Nursing

Nour Lyon, MS, PA-C, Assistant Professor of Nursing

Session Description:

The pandemic has been stressful for all Americans, but particularly on those who work in healthcare. The aftermath of the pandemic continues to be stressful for healthcare providers, as many are working in areas that are short-staffed. There is a nationwide call for improved mental health resources, and this includes for our nurses. Although we are well educated in how to provide care for our patients, we tend to ignore caring for ourselves, and at times, our colleagues and loved ones. Question, persuade and refer (QPR) suicide prevention gatekeeper training helps the participant learn about the three simples steps to help save a life from suicide. Gatekeepers will be trained to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis, and how to question, persuade and refer someone for help. Mental health resources will also be provided.

Learning Objectives:

By the completion of the program, the participant will:
1-be able to identify the common myths and facts about suicide.
2-be able to recognize common early warning signs of suicide.
3-describe ways to offer hope to persons who may be contemplating suicide.
